How to Measure Size in m2:

It is simple to calculate the square metre size of an area.

When measuring rectangular shaped areas. Just multiply the length by the width in metres and you have the answer.

When measuring more complex shapes it is best to divide them into separate rectangles and then add them together to get a total area.

Best Limestone Sealer

>

All too often a sealer from the local hardware store is applied only to realise too late that the limestone appears glassy, is slippery or has begun sticking to feet and peeling off after a short time. Unfortunately it is only discovered at this point that alternative sealing options exist.

When choosing a sealant there are a number of important factors to consider. Final appearance, safety (slip resistance), reliability, durability and wear, ease of application (drying/curing time) and cost to name but a few.

Choose the right sealer for your limestone

   sealers

Sealing is very important if you want to protect your limestone against staining and deterioration. If you have a limestone tiled floor, you will know that it can absorb liquids quickly.

Although sealing limestone won't completely prevent liquids from absorbing into it, it will give you time to wipe spills away before they have a chance to cause any permanent damage.

Sealers are designed to improve the natural stain resistance properties of stone – however they can not provide 100% protection against all stains in every situation. As an example, an impregnating sealer can not fully protect limestone against being etched by acidic solutions such as citrus, wine or soft drink; impregnating sealers reduce the absorption of stains, giving you more time to wipe spills away.

When it comes to sealers, you really do get what you pay for

You should choose a sealer that offers protection against the contaminants common to the area of the stone installation. For example, in kitchens or food serving areas, you should apply a sealer that provides excellent oil resistance and is 100% safe for use around food.

is a premium penetrating sealer that you can use both for interior and exterior limestone tiles. This product penetrates deep in the stone, creating an invisible barrier against water and oil based stains. At the same time, it allows any build up vapour to escape. This product is well known because of its special molecular structure, which makes this sealer more resistant than other products.

Two Types of Sealer

Sealers fall under the 2 following categories
Penetrating Sealer

(Impregnating, Transparent or Colour Enhancing)

Impregnating sealants actually penetrate into the limestone substrate itself, soaking into the microscopic pin-holes and open fissures which make up its natural texture.

A clear impregnating sealer will not change the look of your sealed limestone, won't affect the stone's ability to release vapour and will last much longer than film forming sealers.

   Limestone Penetrating Impregnating Sealers
  • Longer lifetime as the protection is contained within the substrate, and not simply on the surface
  • Not affected by UV light
  • Allows the stone to 'breathe'. Retained moisture can escape
  • Surface does not become slippery
  • Provides invisible protection without changing the surface appearance or leaving a sheen.

In order to provide your limestone with the best possible protection against oil and water-based stains; to maintain the look and slip resistance, and to prevent damaging moisture from being trapped within the stone, it is recommended to seal your limestone with a quality, transparent, fully breathable impregnating sealer.

Fluoro-chemical technology integrated into Australian GOLD is the most advanced sealer technology available, providing ultimate long term protection against water and oil-based stains. The micro-molecular formula chemically reacts with the stone surface to create a bond that is stronger than any other conventional sealer.

An impregnating sealer protects the limestone surface and grout from absorbing stains while also resulting in cleaning and maintenance becoming much easier.

As well as providing excellent protection against water and oil based stains, the range of impregnating water based sealers offer long-term benefits lasting for up 15 years.

Topical

(Film Forming, Coating or Surface Sealant)

Topical Sealers are products which simply sit on the top of the limestone substrate, acting as a barrier between the stone itself and any potential stain.

They are applied to the surface and once cured, harden to form a visible film (coating). In general topical sealers are not always suitable for use with materials such as limestone as they don't allow the stone to breathe, they may not adhere and can become slippery.

   Limestone Topical sealers
  • Tend to abrade easily, leading to obvious areas of scuffing or wear
  • Will need to be re-applied quite regularly
  • Can build-up over time to impart a varnish-like appearance
  • Tend to turn yellow when exposed to UV light (sunlight)
  • Trap moisture in the substrate, leading to problems with efflorescence or damage

provides durable protection against stains, superior oil and water repellency, no change to the natural surface appearance, is non-film forming, breathable, and easy to clean and maintain, preserving the appearance of your limestone.
